The County of San Diego invites resumes from experienced social services managers to become an Assistant Deputy Director, within the Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA), to manage Polinsky Childrens Center, a 24- hour temporary emergency shelter for children, located in the North Central Region of the County. The incumbent will be responsible for: developing collaborative relationships with health, education, housing and social services agencies to enhance provision of protective services; improving facilities and improving community relations; establishing policies and procedures consistent with sound management techniques and general policies of the Region; analyzing, interpreting and implementing legislative actions and state and federal directives related to providing protective services; providing administrative direction and supervision to subordinate staff; representing the Director in governmental, agency and community activities; and helping manage Regional expenditures within budget.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years of management level experience providing specialized services to children and families with children, including direct experience in budget, personnel, fiscal and other administrative functions atboth the line and support staff levels. The ideal candidate will also: have a reputation as an advocate for children and families; have a strong commitment to the interest of protecting children and preserving families; demonstrate sensitivity to and awareness of sociological and psychological principles involved in providing assistance and services to children and families in residential care and treatment; offer diverse management, leadership and innovation skills as a result of varied experience preferably from line, staff and management levels; possess the skill and ability to work with public officials, judges, law enforcement agencies, community groups, private organizations and the communications media; promote teamwork among operations managers and among various agencies in the community; have extensive knowledge of child welfare and related human services programs and the justice system; and have excellent analytical skills. The ideal candidate will have had direct practical Childrens Services work experience at the worker, supervisor, program and management levels. A background in family and court services is sought. A masters degree in child development, psychology, social work, counseling, public or business administration is highly desirable. Experience in managing a 24-hour facility is ideal.

VACATION: Fifteen working days annually during the first five years of service, twenty working days annually for service between five and fifteen years, and twenty-five working days annually thereafter. The Alpha Center is seeking candidates for an Associate position. Established in 1976, the Alpha Center is a non-profit and non-partisan health policy center dedicated to improving access to affordable, quality health care. A key link between health services researchers and those charged with implementing policies and programs, Alpha Center helps public and private sector clients respond to health care challenges by providing four sets of services: expert policy and technical assistance, objective analysis and research, convening and facilitation, and program management.
The Associate will participate primarily in a new project entitled “Networking for Rural Health,” funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The project aims to strengthen the rural health care delivery system by supporting the development and implementation of rural health networks. The scope of the project is to provide rural healthcare providers and other network leaders with a variety of technical assistance products and services, including workshops, monographs, needs assessments, customized consultations, and a website. The project also will conduct national policy conferences as forums for assessing the implications of network development for public policy. Delaware Health and Social Services is recruiting for the position of Director, Division of Alcoholism, Drug Abuse and Mental Health. This division is a state agency with 930 employees and an annual budget of approximately $75,000,000, providing a range Of alcohol, drug abuse and mental health services for adults, including community- based and inpatient programs. The programs include Delaware Psychiatric Center, a 360 bed inpatient psychiatric hospital, which is JCAHO accredited. The Allegheny County (Pittsburgh) Department of Human Services seeks a Manager of a newly created Division of Policy, Information, Planning, Evaluation, and Research (PIPER). This position reports to the Director of the Department of Human Services, Marc Cherna, and is part of the senior management team of an expanded and reorganized human services delivery system. The Manager of PIPER will bridge the programmatic and fiscal sides of this mega-department, helping to implement the reorganization and improve human services in Allegheny County. This position will lead a major effort to strengthen the measurement and documentation of needs, interventions, and outcomes in Pittsburgh and the surrounding county, forge collaborations with other public and private organizations, and develop new funding sources. Strong research and evaluation skills are required, as is excellent writing ability and good interpersonal communication skills. A balance of human services program planning, research and evaluation, and IS skills is required, as well as managerial ability (30-40 staff) and the capacity for strong teamwork. The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy is a national, non-profit organization which was established to reduce the rate of teen pregnancy by one-third by 2005. The Campaign is seeking a Research Associate. This individual will be responsible for providing general analytic support to the Campaign Director and for staffing the Campaign's Task Force on Effective Programs and Research Task Force, currently chaired by Douglas Kirby, Ph.D., of ETR Associates. Duties:
The Research Associate will be responsible for providing general analytic support to the Campaign on a variety of continuing and special projects, and also for providing staff support to the Campaign's Task Force on Effective Programs and Research. Duties will include writing papers, memos and reports on various aspects of teen pregnancy prevention, and compiling, analyzing and managing statistical data sets using basic statistical and spreadsheet packages. Qualifications:
Must have Master's Degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Sociology, or a related field that has included training in basic statistics or demography. A minimum of three years of relevant experience is required. Experience interpreting large-scale data sets and surveys strongly preferred. Experience with teen pregnancy, adolescent or reproductive health issues is highly desirable.
Proficiency in communicating technical materials clearly and simply is critical. Must be self-directed, able to establish priorities, and have excellent written and verbal communications skills. Must be attentive to detail, able to work on multiple projects at once, and possess strong organizational skills. Must have strong quantitative analytic skills with experience in SAS or other software packages and Excel or other spreadsheet packages and be able to generate charts and tables.
