Dear Congressman Neguse:
On behalf of the 32,000 members of the American Public Works Association (APWA), we are writing in support of H.R. 744, the “Disaster Management Cost Modernization Act” which you introduced. As you may be aware, APWA members serve in both the public and private sectors, providing expertise at the local, state, and federal government levels. Working in the public interest, our members plan, design, build, operate, and maintain, America’s vast infrastructure network that is so fundamental to our economy, environment, public health, and safety.
As first responders, public works professionals are recognized as the “silent arm of public safety” and are often called upon before, during, and following disasters be they natural or otherwise. This includes APWA members providing assessments, financial recommendations, and guidance as to how to best respond to emergencies in the areas of remediation.
