Engineering & Public Works Roadshow Heading to Minnesota
- In the midst of a four-stop swing this month, the Engineering & Public Works Roadshow will make its next stop Thursday at the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley, MN;
- Nominated by the APWA Minnesota chapter and a 2024 Public Works Project of the Year award winner in the $25 to $75M range, the Treetop Trail is a significant public infrastructure achievement showcasing excellent environmental stewardship, construction management, and community impact;
- APWA CEO Scott Grayson will speak at this week’s Roadshow
- On April 16, APWA Region VII Director Kristina Ramirez spoke at the Roadshow stop showcasing the $1.6B Bois d’Arc Lake Reservoir Project in Texas

Direct-to-Customer Flood Insurance Premium Quoting Tool
- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) says its National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is streamlining the process to access flood insurance pricing information with a direct-to-customer flood insurance quoting tool;
- Customers will be able to get a flood insurance policy quote for their property and be provided with local and national carrier information for their quoted policy;
- NFIP has provided $1.3T in coverage for 4.7M policyholders in 22,500 communities across the nation;

FEMA Shares New BRIC Grant Program Guidance
- FEMA has released an advisory about the discontinuation of the BRIC Grant Program:
- The previous advisory was shared in the April 7 Washington Report
- With the updated advisory, FEMA says:
- It will reach out and coordinate with recipients on projects
- Its website will be updated with a full list of projects selected for funding over the past four years
- Status of projects will show which ones are fully obligated, partially obligated, or cancelled.
FEMA updates Mitigation Planning Policy Guide
- FEMA has released an updated Local Mitigation Planning Policy Guide;
- This update helps local governments develop, change, and implement local mitigation plans;
- It’s also a tool for FEMA and state officials who review and approve these plans.
NEMA Sends Open Letter to FEMA Review Council
- APWA partner, the National Emergency Management Association (NEMA), has published an open letter to the soon-to-be established FEMA Review Council advocating for the continuation of mutual communication between NEMA and the federal government;
- NEMA is calling the information “a series of conversation starters and possible solutions for improving the overall national emergency management system.”
DOT Request for Input on Deregulation—Submissions due by May 5
- The U.S. Dept. of Transportation issued a request for information in the Federal Register Ensuring Lawful Governance and Implementation of the President’s Department of Government Efficiency’s Deregulatory Agenda;
- The purpose of this request is to identify existing DOT regulations, guidance, or reporting requirements inconsistent with law or Administration policy, including those that may be unnecessary, obsolete, or no longer make sense;
- This request for information is to assist DOT in aligning with President Trump’s Executive Orders 14219 and 14192.

- April 30 at 10 a.m., the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will hold a hearing on Building on the IIJA’s Successes: Identifying Opportunities to Strengthen Water Infrastructure Programs;
- June 16 at 9:30 a.m., the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will host a public hearing on heat injury and illness prevention proposed rulemaking
