Public art is a valuable addition to communities; it beautifies public spaces and is attractive to residents and visitors alike. Managing public art installations in the right-of-way (ROW) comes with unique challenges. This live virtual program will provide an in-depth look at how the City of Indianapolis oversees its public art program, from initial planning to long-term maintenance. Attendees will gain insights into key policies, communication strategies, risk mitigation, and case studies that illustrate both the challenges and successes of public art management. The session will also offer guidance on how other communities can develop similar programs while addressing ROW-specific considerations.

After completing this course, participants will be better able to:

  1. List the practical steps for implementing a public art program.
  2. Identify potential challenges in public art installation and management and describe strategies to mitigate these challenges.
  3. Apply case studies and best practices for implementing and maintaining public art programs.
