Wildfire coverage typically only shows the efforts of firefighters, but public works as first responders has a tremendous responsibility preparing for and responding to wildfires. If a small city or rural community is impacted by wildfire, it is likely depending on assistance from a neighboring town. Sometimes, a smaller city is able to provide assistance to an adjacent large city. This panel will discuss how small city/rural community public works agencies have responded to recent wildfires, unique challenges that impact small cities and rural communities when these events occur, and resources and recommendations to prepare you if wildfires hit your community.
