Model Inventory of Roadway Elements – MIRE, is the collection of data for transportation professions to make data-driven safety decisions. MIRE can be used to perform analyses supporting the strategic and performance-based goals in SHSP and HSIP. This presentation focuses on the two Local Road Fundamental Data Elements (FDE's) for Paved and Unpaved Roads.

After attending this session, participants will be better able to:

· describe the federal regulation and the terminology associated with the MIRE FDE's as well as SHSP and HSIP.

· recognize what is happening around the United States in relationship with data sharing and how the State DOT's are supporting the Locals.

· identify best practices, pilot programs and/or research that are being used throughout the United States to enhance safety using the MIRE FDE's.
